Your role:

As a Workshop Leading Hand you will be responsible for the supervision of staff performing repairs and maintenance of the Transdev John Holland Bus fleet. You will working predominantly at the Randwick and Waverley (near Bondi Junction) depots with the requirement to work at Port Botany when needed and based on operational requirements. Please note that free site parking is available at all 3 depots.

Your work will support the public transport industry across bus Region 9 in Sydney’s iconic Eastern Suburbs and support the connection between families, friends, and future generations. Help us deliver safe, reliable, and sustainable journeys. You will be working shift work and weekends on a rotating roster but will also work as directed due to coverage of staff on annual leave.


Your responsibilities:

To perform trades-based and associated maintenance work on Transdev John Holland Buses in an efficient and cost-effective manner to meet business and depot/regional requirements in accordance with regulatory standards.

Supervision of up to 30 staff from various trades such as Mechanics, Body Repairers, Spray painters, Auto Electricians, Trade Assistants, Apprentices, contractors, suppliers and couriers.

Assist the relevant Manager in implementing strategies and coordinating daily workshop activities to support compliance with Sydney Metropolitan Bus Services Contract (MBSC) requirements.

Conducting functional checks to ensure components are operational and vehicles are fit for service.

Being responsible for fault finding and quality assurance of work completed.

Implementing strategies and supervising daily workshop activities to support the ongoing delivery of fleet operational requirements.

Maintaining and using administrative and computerised systems to maintain accurate records at all times to maximise the efficiency of operations, labour utilisation, quality control, the provision of inventory for body repair and cost effectiveness.

Investigating and preparing reports on matters that affect the performance as required.

Supervising and undertaking activities related to warranty procedures on a daily basis to ensure compliance.

 

Hours of work on a rotating roster:

Morning shift: 6am to 2.30pm

Midday shift: 1030am to 7.30pm

Shift hours: 2pm-10pm or 2.30pm to 10.30pm

 

Saturday shifts are paid as time ½ for the whole shift.


You will be working shift work and weekends on a rotating roster but will also work as directed due to coverage of staff on annual leave.



The talent you bring:

Current NSW MVTC Motor Mechanic trade certificate, alternatively will consider MVTC Panel Beater or Auto Electrical trade qualification with relevant experience and bus knowledge

Current HC drivers licence (or have C class licence and be willing to get HC licence after commencement)

Previous supervisory experience in a similar environment such as bus maintenance or public transport operations

Computer literacy with the ability to record accurate maintenance information.

Senior First Aid certificate (desirable).

About the role

As the Maintenance Controller you will oversee the branch workshop and provide customers with an exceptional level of service through maintenance/repair of small motor powered equipment to our high quality standards. You will also support other branches within the network in the utilisation and/or repair of hire equipment between branches as required.

About you

  • At least 3 years' experience in a similar role or field with a proven track record of strong equipment maintenance and servicing
  • A proven ability to be adaptable to changing priorities and work conditions including the ability to both work as part of a team and to work autonomously to complete tasks within required timeframes
  • Time management skills including the ability to plan ahead and reschedule in accordance with changes in priorities
  • A valid Driver's licence

Your Role Will Include:

  • Performing electrical work on plant equipment, systems, and shutdowns – including maintenance, fault finding, repairs, and installations.

  • Diagnosing and resolving electrical issues efficiently.

  • Ensuring compliance with WHS and safety protocols.

  • Collaborating with other trades and site personnel.

  • Delivering high-quality service at client sites.

  • Building and maintaining strong customer relationships.

What You’ll Need:

  • NSW Electrical License and Australian-recognised Electrical Trade Qualification.

  • Minimum 2 years’ electrical experience in industrial service-based roles.

  • Familiarity with electrical drawings, control systems, and safety protocols.

  • Current full Driver’s License and reliable transport.

  • White Card (General Construction Induction) – preferred.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Strong time management and communication skills.
