The Opportunity

We are currently recruiting for TWO key operational roles, both focused on the efficient operation and maintenance of heavy plant, primarily the grader, to ensure the quality and longevity of Council's road network. These positions require a practical, hands-on approach and strict compliance with WHS and Environmental Legislation.

Role 1: Leading Hand Grader Operator (Construction)

Reporting to the Superintendent (Construction Works), this role supports road maintenance and construction operations. 

Your Duties and Responsibilities will include:

  • Operating a Grader with proven final trim experience for construction projects and all Transport for NSW works.
  • Organising, running, and assisting in supervising day-to-day worksite activities.
  • Ensuring all necessary safety measures and environmental/sediment controls are actively in place and operational on the worksite.
  • Monitoring the quality and quantity of materials delivered to the worksite and advising the supervisor promptly of any discrepancies.
  • Taking full charge of the Work Crew on site in the absence of the Ganger, including task delegation and daily supervision.

Role 2: Plant Operator (Grader) (Sealed Works)

Reporting to the Superintendent (Sealed Works), this role adopts a practical, hands-on approach to executing scheduled works, focusing on maintaining and improving our Shire's extensive sealed road network.

Your Duties and Responsibilities will include:

  • Operating the grader to maintain gravel roads, including clearing table drains, and spreading & compacting gravel for the resheeting programme.
  • Conducting plant operations for maintenance of sealed roads, including heavy patching and clearing vegetation.
  • Meeting productivity targets and production deadlines as required by the work programme.
  • Immediately ceasing operating plant if a component fails and reporting all defects to Workshop maintenance for repair.
  • Ensuring that work tasks are conducted with minimal disruption to the community to uphold good customer relations.

We are seeking a Site Representative (AO6) to act as the eyes and ears on the ground for the Project Superintendent's team.

This isn't just a site-checking role; you will be the lynchpin between the managing contractor and the project leadership, driving accountability and ensuring success.

The Opportunity

You will be based at the Palen Creek Correctional Centre, focusing on the day-to-day coordination and oversight of significant construction works. Your core mission is to protect the client's interests by ensuring every aspect of the build aligns with the project documentation, approved plans, and contractual agreements.

Key areas of focus will include:

  • Contractual Stewardship: Applying contractual obligations honestly and fairly to all parties involved in the works.
  • Quality Assurance: Undertaking daily site inspections and confirming the managing contractor's works are executed strictly in accordance with approved project documentation.
  • Progress and Performance Monitoring: Reviewing site progress continuously against the officially approved construction program.
  • Compliance Management: Ensuring all mandatory Building Act Compliance inspections are performed and that meticulous records are maintained.

What You Will Bring
  • Experience: A minimum of five years' proven experience in delivering large-scale commercial construction projects.
  • Contracts Expertise: Demonstrated, proven experience in contract administration.
  • Education: A degree in Engineering or a relevant tertiary qualification. Consideration will also be given to candidates with relevant TAFE or trade backgrounds.
  • Mandatory Requirements: A current White Card and driver's licence.
  • Clearances: The ability to successfully obtain Queensland Corrective Services clearances is essential.
  • Highly Desirable: Previous experience in a similar site representation role or experience working within complex, operational 24/7 facilities (like correctional centres or hospitals) is highly valued, but not essential.

It is expected that the successful candidate will possess strong oral/written communication, presentation and interpersonal skills.
