Our client has been servicing the Arts community with legal advice for over 20 years, offering a range of services, including IP protection, advocacy, education, and legal advice, to name a few. Although mostly funded by the state and federal governments, paid subscription services to artists supplement their revenue streams.

It's a business with a genuine passion for working with Australia’s leading artists, especially within the Indigenous community. This is a 3-day per week part-time role with flexible hours and options to work from home.

The Role

This Finance and Operations Manager role has been created to provide the CEO and leadership team with Financial and Operational support in conjunction with their accounting firm.  

More specifically,the role will have oversight of the finance function, including everything from month-end accounting through MYOB, through to:

  • Oversee day-to-day office management, ensuring a well-organised, functional, and efficient workspace.

  • Supervise administrative staff, providing direction and support to maintain high-quality operational functions.

  • Collaborating with external financial advisors and the CEO to ensure accurate and compliant financial practices.

  • Maintaining financial records and assisting in the preparation of budgets and financial reports.

  • Perform basic bookkeeping tasks, including processing orders, subscriptions, and invoices.

  • Managing the grants application process through to reporting to the Government bodies on a bi-annual basis

  • Provide basic IT support and coordinate with IT specialists to resolve technical issues.

  • Assist with HR functions such as onboarding, employee record-keeping, and compliance with workplace policies.

It’s a very hands-on role, so day-to-day responsibilities can vary enormously, meaning no two days are the same …

Key Responsibilities

About the role

As the Taxation Accountant and Salary Packaging Manager, you will play a vital role in ensuring Hunter New England Health meets all taxation and salary packaging compliance requirements.

In this role, you will:

  • Manage and implement the framework for GST, FBT, and other taxation compliance across the district.

  •   Prepare and lodge Business Activity Statements (BAS), FBT returns, and reportable FBT calculations accurately and on time.

A strong cultural alignment with this organisation and its purpose will be key to the success of the incoming CFO and as such a genuine passion to work in this sector is essential.

  • Minimum 10 years' experience in progressively senior financial leadership roles, ideally within complex, highly regulated organisations.
  • CA/CPA qualification.

Reporting directly to the Financial Controller, the Senior Financial Accountant will play a key role in supporting financial operations, regulatory reporting, and month-end processes, whilst helping to drive continuous improvement across systems and processes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Financial & Management Reporting: Support the preparation of quarterly CFO reports and reconciliation of local results to US GAAP reporting standards, providing insight into key financial metrics and variances.
  • Month-End Close: Perform monthly reconciliations between insurance systems and the general ledger; post journal entries and ensure accurate and complete month, quarter, and year-end close processes.
  • Balance Sheet Oversight: Prepare and review balance sheet reconciliations, investigate variances, and ensure robust documentation to support audit and internal review requirements.
  • Regulatory Reporting: Assist in the preparation and timely submission of APRA returns, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and internal controls.
  • Industry Reporting: Complete and submit statutory surveys and reporting to government bodies such as the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS).
  • Audit Management: Act as a key contact during the annual external audit process by responding to audit queries and providing supporting documentation.
  • Tax Compliance: Work with the Finance Operations team to prepare and lodge indirect tax returns, including GST and stamp duty, and support preparation of the FBT and income tax return.

About You:

  • CA or CPA qualified with 4+ years' commercial accounting experience, ideally within Insurance, Financial Services or Professional Services.
  • Solid understanding of accounting standards and regulatory reporting, ideally with IFRS 17 exposure.
  • Can-do attitude with a strong work ethic and willingness to learn.
  • Strong Excel skills and experience with ERP systems.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to work to deadlines and partner across business units.
