About the Role
We’re seeking an experienced Payroll Coordinator to step in immediately and lead the payroll function for one of Melbourne’s most vibrant local councils.

Working within the People & Culture team, you’ll manage end-to-end payroll for 1,000+ employees, lead two Payroll Officers, and act as the Aurion subject matter expert (SME) - ensuring compliance, accuracy, and smooth operations during a critical handover period.

This is an immediate start contract through mid-January 2026, supporting a full handover before the current Coordinator’s departure on 24 October.

The Opportunity
You’ll oversee the full payroll cycle, from data management and superannuation to reporting, auditing, and compliance with the Enterprise Agreement, Awards, and Fair Work requirements.

You’ll also take ownership of Aurion systems administration, providing specialist support, training, and process improvement across the business.

This is a hands-on leadership role suited to someone who thrives in a fast-paced, high-volume payroll environment with a collaborative, down-to-earth culture.

What You’ll Be Doing
  • Lead, mentor, and support a small payroll team of two officers
  • Manage end-to-end payroll processing for 1,000+ employees (fortnightly cycle)
  • Maintain compliance with EA, Awards, Fair Work, Superannuation, and Taxation obligations
  • Act as Aurion SME - training staff, managing upgrades, and improving system use

  • Proven experience managing end-to-end payroll for large, complex organisations (1,000+ staff)

East Gippsland Shire Council is seeking Expressions of Interest for the role of Independent Chair of its Audit and Risk Committee

The Audit and Risk Committee is an advisory body that reports to Council, providing independent advice on financial management, corporate governance, internal controls, risk management, compliance, and oversight of internal and external audits. 

Council is seeking a suitably qualified and experienced individual to serve as Chair for a term of up to three (3) years, commencing in early 2026. To support continuity of knowledge and expertise, Committee members are appointed on staggered terms ranging from one to three years. 

The Committee comprises three independent external members, who collectively bring a diverse mix of professional skills and experience relevant to Council operations. The Chair will demonstrate strong leadership, the ability to facilitate effective meetings, and maintain productive working relationships with both the Committee and Council. 

The Committee meets at least five times per year, with meetings generally held online, offering flexibility and ease of participation. 

Note:  Council has recently made some changes to the Committee’s membership composition and structure.  These changes have not yet been reflected in the Committee’s Charter. 

Remuneration 

Remuneration for the chairperson of the Committee is $1,100 per meeting (indexed annually), inclusive of time spent on preparation for the meeting.

  • Previous experience serving on similar committees in local government or the broader public sector 

Council will also consider any specialist expertise that contributes to a well-rounded and skilled committee.

Reporting to the Head of Tax - Projects, this role will act as a subject matter expert across several high-profile transformation projects. You will partner with Finance, IT and project teams to make sure tax requirements are well understood, accurately built, and thoroughly tested prior to go-live.

This is an exciting opportunity for a proactive and detail-oriented tax / tax technology professional to apply their expertise across SAP systems and cross-functional projects, driving meaningful impact in how Asahi operates across Australia and New Zealand.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Provide tax input across major strategic projects, including:
    • NZ ERP implementation – ensuring the roll-out meets New Zealand tax obligations, in particular GST and alcohol excise
    • Warehouse & transport management system upgrade – providing tax input into Australian system enhancements
    • Distribution network project – providing tax input into the design and implementation of new software solutions as part of a business project to consolidate Asahi's distribution and logistics network down the Eastern seaboard
  • Develop and execute test scenarios to validate required tax settings and outcomes, resolving issues as they arise
  • Manage the accurate and timely migration of tax-related data as part of project delivery
  • Review and provide tax input to business process design, training materials and governance documentation

About you:

 

You are an experienced finance and / or tax professional (Senior Tax Analyst or Tax Manager level) who combines strong technical knowledge with an ability to effectively collaborate across different functions and analyse large volumes of data.  You thrive in project environments, bringing both precision and business understanding to your work.

 

  • Extensive experience working with SAP, ideally including implementation or upgrade projects
  • Demonstrated experience in tax and accounting
  • Working knowledge of New Zealand and / or Australian tax legislation (alcohol excise experience highly regarded)
  • Intermediate-level Excel skills and confidence handling large, complex datasets
