About the Position

This position has the primary responsibility if assisting in the provision of library programs and events for adults and young people to ensure delivery of an innovative library service that meets the needs of the community. Within their allocated portfolio the Adult and Youth Programs Officer will help to achieve a range of operational outcomes by:

  • Developing and providing specialist services in library programs and adult and youth programming.
  • Evaluating adult and youth library programs and events and implementing changes to ensure they continually meet community needs and organisational priorities.

Position Summary

The Course Coordinator will work collaboratively with the Dean to ensure overall coherence of teaching operations and organisational priorities to support the continuing viability and regulatory compliance of the Institute. The Course Coordinator is responsible for the efficient, effective and equitable delivery of a high-quality course. This includes responsibilities for development and implementation of a quality learning and teaching framework, course development and accreditation, management of resources specific to the course and provision of academic services that enrich the student experience. The Course Coordinator reports to the Dean and is part of the Executive Management Team of the Institute.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities of the Course Coordinator’s position include:

  • Provide academic leadership of teaching and learning in the Graduate Diploma of Early Childhood Education offered by LIHE.

  • Design and implement teaching strategies and practices to enhance student engagement and the student learning experience.

  • Teach units in an area of expertise, showing flair, creativity, and an engaging teaching style to students from diverse backgrounds.

  • Monitor the Student Portal webpages for each unit ensuring that academic staff have timely and appropriate access.

  • Contribute to the development of timetables for each period of study in consultation with Student Support Manager and the Dean.

  • Liaise with academic staff in ensuring student progress including monitoring attendance records.

  • Oversee and report on student satisfaction surveys and staff satisfaction surveys for each term of study.

  • Ensure prescribed and recommended texts per unit are available to students and staff prior to commencement of term of study.

  • Initiate, develop and maintain partnerships with industry, placement providers and professional groups to support LIHE strategic objectives and deliver quality student outcomes.

  • Provide induction programs for placement providers and classroom educators.

  • Review Professional Experience placements, quality, student experience and outcomes.

  • Mentor LIHE academic staff in their acquisition of appropriate digital skills and the adoption of innovative teaching practices in their respective field of study.

  • Work collaboratively with academic and professional staff and lead teams to the achievement of planned outcomes.

Selection Criteria

Essential

  • A higher research degree such as PhD. or Professional Doctorate in Early Childhood Education.

  • Demonstrated experience in effective learning and teaching including ability to develop scholarly, innovative and flexible approaches to teaching and learning.

  • Demonstrated experience of quality teaching, delivering positive student experiences and student outcomes.

  • Leadership and management experience within a higher education environment.

  • A track record of research projects, scholarly activities and publications.

  • Ability to build strong, sustainable academic teams, manage resources within a budget and coordinate a broad range of academic functions.

  • Experience with the delivery and/or management of professional experience student placements.

  • Experience in curriculum development and review, including the management and evaluation of learning and teaching effectiveness.

  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to inspire students and staff.

  • Proven success in working collaboratively and an ability to build highly productive relationships across a range of internal and external partners.

  • Sound knowledge of TEQSA and professional regulations.

Your opportunity

Southern Cross University’s Faculty of Science and Engineering is seeking a passionate Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in Veterinary Microbiology. You will play a key role in shaping our new veterinary program by developing and delivering clinically oriented microbiology and infectious disease learning experiences. Your microbiology expertise, commitment to student-centred teaching and collaborative approach will be central to building our microbiology curriculum and advancing our teaching, research and community partnerships.

You will make an impact by:

  • Designing and delivering foundational and clinically relevant microbiology curricula across bacteriology, virology, parasitology, immunology and infectious disease.
  • Creating engaging learning experiences—case-based tutorials, practical labs, simulations and digital resources, and contribute to clinical curriculum—aligned to accreditation and contemporary veterinary practice.
  • Advancing teaching innovation and scholarship, producing discipline-based or SoLT research, and contributing to accreditation, quality assurance and community-of-practice engagement.
  • Building strong professional partnerships with diagnostic labs, clinicians and industry to enrich teaching, support Work Integrated Learning, and establish the Veterinary Microbiology discipline.

What you will bring

You are an educator and microbiologist who enjoys helping students connect foundational microbiological principles with real-world infectious disease practice. You value collaboration, innovation and the opportunity to shape a cutting-edge veterinary program from the ground up.

To succeed in this role, you will also need:

  • A degree in veterinary science/medicine, along with advanced qualifications relevant to Veterinary Microbiology, e.g. PhD (or near completion); Diplomate (ACVM/ECVM) or Membership/Fellowship (ANZCVS); and/or commensurate professional experience. Formal qualifications in higher education teaching would also be viewed favourably.
  • Demonstrated teaching experience or capacity in veterinary microbiology (bacteriology, mycology, virology, parasitology) with a commitment to practical and clinically oriented instruction.
  • Experience in innovative curriculum and assessment design aligned with good academic practice, clinical application, evidence-based design principles, and veterinary accreditation standards.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to engage diverse learners, colleagues, diagnostic labs, clinicians and external stakeholders.

  • The base salary for a Level B ranges from $114,482 - $135,392 per annum, plus 17% employer’s contribution to superannuation. The total remuneration package is up to $158,408.
    The base salary for a Level C ranges from $139,568 - $160,473 per annum, plus 17% employer’s contribution to superannuation. The total remuneration package is up to $187,753.
