Position Summary

As our Rock Tools Technician you’ll safely provide excellent customer service to meet these service agreements' onsite obligations and requirements. This includes site preparation, handling equipment, managing drill consumables, supporting sample recovery, and ensuring compliance with WHS standards. The role is physically demanding, based in remote environments, and safety-critical.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Travel to designated mine site in the Cobar region and conduct weekly on-site stock checks and tool condition assessments.

• Deliver and collect rock-drilling consumables from mine site storage containers, liaising directly with drillers and site supervisors to understand site needs

• Collect and label core samples accurately

• Assist with the maintenance and cleaning of equipment

• Monitor wear and damage on rods, bits, and accessories

• Perform pre-start inspections and report hazards

• You will report on tool usage, site activity, and customer feedback

• Coordinate deliveries, stock levels, and service logs using MS Word & Excel

Desired skills/experience include

Essential:

• Experience with drill consumables or mining operations (ideal but not essential)

• Physically fit - capable of lifting up to 40kg

• Willingness to work underground

• Basic mechanical aptitude and sound judgement in physical inspections

• Comfortable using Word/Excel for reporting and Outlook for emails

• Valid Australia Driver’s Licence (HR preferred) - Manual with 4WD training/experience preferred

• Able to pass drug/alcohol screening, police check, and medical

• Comfortable working in confined spaces and at depth

• Forklift license desirable

• White Card (Construction Induction)

• First Aid / CPR Certification

• Confined Space & Working at Heights

• High-Risk Work Licence (e.g., forklift, dogging)

• Previous FIFO/DIDO experience

• Facilitate and lead incident investigations, overseeing site corrective actions and hazard reporting processes.
• Manage rehabilitation and return-to-work programs, including documentation, injured worker support, and coordination with health professionals.
• Identify and implement opportunities to improve safety, environmental, quality, and training systems and processes.
• Coordinate and conduct on-site drug and alcohol testing, fitness assessments, and hydration monitoring.
• Maintain training records, reports, and documentation to ensure compliance with corporate, site, and regulatory requirements.
• Conduct training compliance audits.
• Assist site operations with risk management processes, including the development and review of JSAs and risk assessments.
• Facilitate on-site inductions to ensure all employees, contractors, client personnel, and visitors comply with site requirements.

Key Requirements:

• 5+ years experience (underground mining experience desirable)
• WHS cert IV or above
• Training and Assessing - Certificate IV
• Underground operational knowledge
• Proficient in the use of MS Office Suite

• Reporting to the Maintenance Superintendent, you will be: 

• Assisting in the proactive identification of repair and maintenance works, and performing scheduled preventative and routine maintenance.  

• Complying with site Safety and Health Management system requirements (including risk management, SOP's, permits, work instructions etc). 

• Prioritising and undertaking specified and/or general work to the required standard and within timeframes. 

• Maintain a safe, clean and healthy work environment. 

• Minimising production downtime. 

• Actively engage in continuous improvement processes. 

To be successful you will have:  

•  Recognised Boilermaker Trade Qualification (Queensland or nationally recognised equivalent) Certificate III in Engineering – Fabrication

  • Extensive surface mining experience (or heavy industry experience in a similar environment).

  • Strong welding and fabrication skills across a range of heavy equipment.

  • Perform fabrication, repair and maintenance of mining equipment and fixed plant.

  • Carry out structural repairs and welding in compliance with site safety standards.

  • Conduct inspections, identify defects, and ensure repairs meet operational and compliance requirements.

  • Support maintenance shutdowns and breakdown work as required.

  • Maintain a strong focus on safety, teamwork, and compliance with the SHMS and Queensland Coal Mining Safety & Health Regulations.

  • Line boring experience desirable

• Current drivers’ licence (HR desirable).

• Current Working at Heights certification. 

• Current Working in Confined Space certification. 

• EWP, Forklift, Dogging/Rigging licences (desirable).

Key responsibilities

• Conduct daily pre-start and shutdown checks to ensure equipment is in safe working condition.
• Ensure accurate and timely completion of all reporting requirements, including production data and equipment logs.
• Complete inspections, pre-starts, and housekeeping tasks while adhering to all training, operational, and safety requirements.

Qualifications and experience

• Minimum 12 months of experience as a Bogger Operator in an underground mining environment.
• Strong underground equipment operation skills – particularly with boggers/loaders (manual and remote) 
• Time management and reliability – ability to meet production targets while maintaining quality and safety.
• Proven experience in truck loading, backfilling, and general underground operations.

FIELD SERVICE PLANT MECHANIC | HUNTER VALLEY

Our Field Service team in Mt Thorley cater to customers throughout the Hunter Valley region, providing them with service and breakdown solutions. Reporting to our Field Service Supervisor, this role will see you travelling between jobs to provide CAT expertise and ensure minimal downtime. With extensive mechanical aptitude and a safety-first approach to everything you do, this role is best suited to those that love to problem solve and spend their days diagnosing faults.

Roster & remuneration

• Lifestyle Roster - working 14/28 days
• Day shift: 6:30AM - 7:00PM
• Night shift: 6:30PM - 7:00AM
• Potential earnings up to $220,000 + tool of trade vehicle + phone + laptop

PLANT MECHANIC - ELECTRIC DRIVE OFF HIGHWAY TRUCKS

WesTrac is on the lookout for experienced Plant Mechanics to support the commissioning and ongoing maintenance of 794AC Electric Drive Off Highway Trucks—the largest fleet of Caterpillar Electric Drive Trucks in NSW.

Skills & Experience

• Cert III Mobile Plant Technology essential
• Certificate of Proficiency (can be obtained during the recruitment process if required)
• Maintenance experience on electric drive machines (desirable)
• Proven diagnostic capabilities
• Demonstrated ability to work safely
• Outstanding communication and customer service skills
