As a Principal Protection Engineer, you will be responsible for developing and advancing protection standards and implementations to meet regulatory and customer requirements, including embedded generation and storage. You will develop business cases for asset replacement projects and oversee maintenance strategies and defect management. Overall, you will ensure safety, network security and reliability, with effective risk management and commercially prudent investment recommendations.
You will be responsible for managing the staff within the Protection engineering team and provide specialist technical knowledge and support to the business on network protection, including the provision of protection studies and investigation of network incidents.

Primary Objective
Operating under the broad direction of the Deputy Chief Executive Officer and in accordance with Council’s Strategic and Regional Plans, policies, and relevant legislation, the Director – Roads and Infrastructure provides strategic and operational leadership for Council’s infrastructure programs across the Central Desert Region.
The position ensures the effective planning, delivery, and maintenance of roads, facilities, fleet, and capital works, with a focus on safety, sustainability, and community impact. The Director leads functional managers, mentors teams, and provides high-level advice to the Executive Leadership Team (ELT) and Council to achieve reliable, high-quality infrastructure outcomes.

Central Desert Regional Council is a local government authority covering an area over 282,000 Sq. kilometres. The Council provides a range of services in 12 communities to the North of Alice Springs: Lajamanu, Ti tree, Wilora, Nturiya, Pmara Jutunta, Willowra, Laramba, Nyirripi, Yuelamu, Atitjere, Engawala and Yuendumu. There are also several homelands and outstations. The Central Desert area is considered remote and disadvantaged and over 80% of the population is Aboriginal.

What's on offer?
An attractive remuneration package $186,824 - $213,325 per annum that includes the minimum statutory superannuation contribution, professional development allowance and executive vehicle allowance;
6 weeks’ Annual Leave accrued per year;
12 extra days off in lieu (TOIL);
12 public holiday days per year;
1 additional public holiday for NAIDOC day;
3 additional days between Xmas and NY;
15 days Personal Leave accrued per year.

Building Approvals and Water Networks Officer
Canberra Location
Tasks and Duties:
Review and evaluate building applications for water networks and their proper protection and maintenance.
Manage the protection of water networks within buildings, and ensure appropriate maintenance.
Provide statements of compliance or non-compliance as per relevant certifications.
Coordinate tasks with builders, contractors or the public.
Monitor and report to team members any high risk incidents or potential incidents.
Provide potential improvements to above processes.
Assist other team members with similar tasks.
General Qualifications and Skills:
A relevant Technical, Plumbing or Building Certificate or Diploma or an Engineering/Architectural Degree, plus over 5 years relevant work experience.
Ability to understand, interpret and use, large or complex building documentation and its impact on the above-mentioned tasks and duties.
Practical knowledge of relevant codes, contracts, standards, regulations, customer rights and obligations.
Knowledge of building applications, water networks, easements, construction drawings, problem/conflict resolution and working with builders, contractors and the public.
Good communication skills (written and verbal).
Good planning and organisational skills.
Ability to start at short notice (if selected).
