ASC is seeking Senior Electrical Designers to join our Platform Design team, supporting both the Collins Class Submarine (CCSM) Life of Type Extension (LOTE) Program and the Upgrades & Updates (U&U) Program. Position Statement
The Mechanical Engineer (Fabrication & QA Focus) is responsible for delivering high-quality engineering and drafting services, while ensuring that all fabrication work meets internal and external quality standards. This role bridges the gap between design, workshop execution, and quality assurance, contributing to compliance, efficiency, and continuous improvement across the business.
Areas of Responsibility
Maintain individual and workplace safety in accordance with company standards
Interpret engineering drawings, scopes of work, and specifications to support quality and fabrication accuracy
Collaborate with workshop and production teams to ensure all fabrication activities are compliant with technical and QA requirements
Support preparation and management of QA documentation including ITPs, MDRs, NCRs, and inspection checklists
Conduct internal inspections and assist with weld mapping, dimensional checks, and documentation audits
Liaise with clients and third-party inspectors to support QA verification and compliance processes
Participate in site visits for quality reviews, scoping, and fabrication feasibility assessments
Assist in compiling handover documentation packages in accordance with project requirements

Provide technical input into welding procedures and fabrication methodologies
Help coordinate workshop QA processes, documentation workflows, and continuous improvement initiatives

Qualifications & Skills
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Structural Engineering, or relevant trade qualification with QA/fabrication experience
Sound understanding of steel fabrication techniques, welding processes, and QA inspection standards
Experience preparing and reviewing QA documentation (ITPs, MDRs, etc.)
Strong skills in reading and interpreting engineering drawings and technical documentation
Proficiency in CAD software (AutoCAD, Inventor, Solidworks, etc.)
Familiarity with ISO 9001 systems and workshop quality procedures
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Strong planning and time management abilities, with attention to detail
