The City of Nedlands is seeking a dynamic and experienced Manager Engineering and Maintenance to lead a high-performing team within our Technical Services division. This is a rare opportunity to take the reins of a strategic leadership role that blends civil engineering expertise with operational oversight, stakeholder engagement, and long-term infrastructure planning.

About the Role

Reporting directly to the Director Technical Services, you’ll be responsible for the strategic direction, planning, and delivery of capital works, civil infrastructure, and building maintenance across the City. You’ll manage key business units including City Projects, Civil Maintenance, and Facility Management, while overseeing the operations of the John XXIII Depot.

Your leadership will ensure our infrastructure programs are delivered on time, on budget, and to the highest standards of safety, compliance, and community value.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Lead and inspire a multidisciplinary team across engineering, project delivery, and maintenance
  • Oversee strategic planning, budgeting, and operational performance of infrastructure programs
  • Provide expert advice to Council and expert stakeholders on capital works and asset management
  • Build strong relationships with government agencies, contractors, and community stakeholders
  • Champion a culture of safety, innovation, and continuous improvement
  • Represent the City in forums, workshops, and strategic planning initiatives

What You Bring

Must-haves:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Civil Engineering, Construction, or a related field
  • Proven leadership experience in infrastructure, construction, or public sector operations
  • Strong financial acumen and experience managing large-scale budgets and contracts
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Current ‘C’ Class Driver’s Licence and National Police Clearance
  • A National Police Clearance less than 3 months old
  • Willingness to undergo a pre-employment medical

Bonus points for:

  • Professional Engineer registration with Engineers Australia
  • Qualifications in business or project management
  • Experience in local government or public infrastructure delivery
