About the role:

Are you interested in kick-starting a career in warehousing and logistics?

Penrith City Council is looking to employ committed, enthusiastic, and reliable individuals to undertake a 12-month traineeship in Warehouse Operations. Your positive attitude, willingness to learn, and strong work ethic will help you succeed in securing one of these exciting opportunities.

As a Warehouse Trainee, you will complete a Certificate II in Supply Chain Operations, while gaining valuable hands-on experience in a supportive and safety-focused environment. The traineeship will commence in early 2026.

Warehouse Trainees will assist in a variety of tasks to ensure the efficient and safe operation of Council’s warehouse and inventory systems. Duties may include:

  • Receiving and dispatching goods
  • Stock control and inventory management
  • Manual handling and use of warehouse equipment
  • Maintaining a clean and organised work environment
  • Supporting internal departments with supply needs
Selection Criteria:
  • Ability to commit to the completion of required study (including attending TAFE and submission of coursework) and work at the same time
  • Willingness to take on tasks as directed by supervisors
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Demonstrated reliability and punctuality
  • Good communication and basic numeracy skills
  • Basic computer skills (e.g., Microsoft Office and inventory systems)
  • Not hold a Certificate II or higher in the field of Warehousing, Logistics, or Supply Chain Operations
Salary commencing from $827.40 per week, plus 12% Superannuation.

You will be required to undertake employment checks, which may include a Criminal History Check, Qualification Check, Working with Children Check, Medical Declaration and/or a Functional Test, as relevant to the position for which you have applied. Where a Criminal History Check is required and has returned a result that indicates disclosable court outcomes, you will be required to provide a copy of the report to Penrith City Council, for review, in order to progress through the recruitment process.

The Opportunity

Reporting to the Production Manager – Nutritionals, this hands-on role is part of an autonomous team responsible for delivering safe, efficient, and high-quality outcomes across the Nutritionals division.

You’ll contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, maintain GMP and HACCP standards, and ensure all production and quality processes run smoothly.

  • Monitor and report on shift performance, sharing data and insights with other departments to improve overall plant performance. 
  • Identify trends or process issues, investigate root causes, and implement corrective actions to maintain product integrity. 
  • Act as the first point of escalation for quality or operational issues, engaging relevant resources to resolve and report outcomes. 
  • Conduct inline quality and safety checks, ensuring any risks or non-conformances are contained and addressed. 
  • Partner with Maintenance team to ensure preventative maintenance, equipment checks, and changeovers are competed effectively. 
  • Work collaboratively within an open and respectful team, ensuring accountability across all shifts.
  • Support performance management and communicati9on across the wider team in partnership with the Production Manager. 
  • Apply and uphold department policies and procedures consistently. 
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and help develop and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Promote a strong culture of Safety, Quality, and Compliance across all site operations. 

What you’ll bring

  • Hands-on manufacturing or production experience, with mechanical or electrical trade knowledge - highly regarded.
  • Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles.
  • Familiarity with filtration and spray drying technologies - highly desirable
  • Formal qualifications in Dairy, Food Processing, Engineering or Competitive Manufacturing are preferred (but equivalent experience will also be highly valued). 
  • A strong ability to learn quickly and adapt within a state-of-the-art manufacturing environment.
  • An inquisitive mindset, eager to learn from technical experts and continuously improve processes. 
  • A team-first attitude, with a passion for working efficiently, safely, and to high quality standards. 
  • Flexibility to work within a 24/7 production environment on 12-hour shifts, maintaining composure and decision-making under pressure.
