Your new role

We are looking for a motivated individual who is solution focussed when it comes to building, maintaining and managing local roads.  With your strong leadership skills, you will guide the team to consistently deliver excellent outcomes for our community and our team.  You will also be responsible for the development of proactive and planned maintenance programs across the region, including but not limited to Council’s own road and stormwater networks, Council’s RMPC contract and DRFA programs when in effect.

About the role:

The position of Student Engineer provides a development pathway for a suitable candidate for potential future Graduate Engineer positions at the City. Our client has a proud 55 year history of outstanding local product in the electrical power distribution, automation and electrification sectors. In support of significant growth they are seeking fill multiple product design roles:  

Your role
  • Develop detailed product designs that meet specification, function, safety and quality requirements
  • Translate technical requirements and customer needs into practical engineering solutions
  • Create and manage CAD models, drawings and design documentation,
     support prototyping, testing, and validation of new designs
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure design feasibility and manufacturability
  • Apply value engineering principles to optimize cost performance and materials
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards, regulations and internal quality systems
  • Identify and implement design improvements based on testing, feedback and field performance
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of materials, technologies and design trends
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of design processes and tools
About you
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, electrical, or product design engineering - most likely mechanical 
  • Minimum 3–5 years of experience in product design and development within a manufacturing or engineering environment
  • Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Creo) and design documentation tools 
  • Experience with prototyping, testing and validation of engineered products 
  • Understanding of design for manufacturing (DFM), value engineering, and cost optimization techniques 
  • Familiarity with relevant Australian industry standards, regulatory requirements, and quality systems 
  • Exposure to cross-functional collaboration with teams such as manufacturing, quality, and product management 
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills applied to design challenges and product improvements 
  • Experience with materials selection, tolerance analysis, and mechanical design principles 
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple design projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
