In this role you will be developing H Nu’s electrical test system for characterising H Nu's revolutionary optical current and voltage measurement equipment and developing associated control software. You will be deeply involved in product verification and test. You will also be working closely with our software engineers and the electronics, mechanical and optical teams.

Duties and Responsibilities:

·       Help build, configure and operate the electrical and environmental test system

·       Develop control software for the test equipment

·       Design tests based on electrical standards

·       Developing software for testing and reporting device performance.

·       Work with AEMO and similar organisations to work towards metering certification.

·       Contributes to team effort by accomplishing tasks as needed.

 Nature of Position:

The position is full-time with the expectation that the employee will generally work 5 days/week during normal business hours. The vast majority of the work will be on-site since you will be working closely with our electronics, firmware, mechanical and optics engineers.

 

Qualifications and Skills

Essential

  • Extensive experience (3 years +) in using and controlling electrical test equipment

  • Extensive experience in Python, Matlab or LabVIEW controlling and automating test equipment

  • Good report writing skills

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience

  • A careful, patience systematic approach

  • Good communications skills

Position Overview

The Bureau is looking for an experienced Engineering Manager to manage the Radar Engineering group within the Operational Technology Engineering (OTE) team. OTE supports observation systems and operations within the Observing Systems and Operations (OSO) program.

The Manager Radar Engineering will lead and manage a diverse group of technical and scientific team members to provide engineering support to the Bureau's Radar, Ionosonde and Wind Profiler networks.

The successful candidate will also act as the Bureau's radiation protection advisor, working with experts in laser, ionising and non-ionising radiation management requirements.

The role also includes working with Bureau and external stakeholders to ensure successful operation of these capabilities.

 Role responsibilities

The responsibilities of the role include but are not limited to:

  1. Lead the Radar Engineering team who are responsible for providing engineering advice and services for the Bureau Radar, Wind Profiler and Ionosonde networks
  2. Support strategic goals of OSO
  3. Foster professionalism and career development within the team.
  4. Ensuring implementation of, and adherence to, Systems Engineering and Quality Management System processes.
  5. Engage stakeholders on RF asset management and projects, providing expert advice under the Risk Management Framework.
  6. Perform the role as the Bureau Radiation Protection advisor, coordinating advice from laser, ionising and non-ionising radiation experts to meet ARPANSA requirements of the Bureau.
  7. Drive innovation and continuous improvement; manage the full lifecycle of radar and RF systems from design to implementation.
  8. Oversee planning, budgeting, risk management, and performance monitoring; enhance capabilities and stay engaged with industry developments.
  9. Complying with all Bureau work, health and safety policies and procedures, and taking reasonable care for your own health and safety and that of employees, contractors and visitors who may be affected by your conduct.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Proficient in mechanical design software including AutoCAD and SolidWorks
  • Well-versed in Australian standards and other international standards relevant to mechanical engineering
  • Experience using SAP for engineering and project management functions
  • Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills
  • Chartered Engineer status (CPEng) with Engineers Australia is highly preferred
