About the role:
An exciting opportunity has arisen for two dedicated and suitably experienced (at least 2 years post-graduation) Registered Nurses to join our Intensive Care Family.
This is a 24-month (0.8 FTE) Transition to Critical Care Program affiliated with the Australian Catholic University (ACU). Successful completion awards the participant two subjects towards a Graduate Certificate in Clinical Nursing (Intensive Care) at ACU. Permanent positions will be available within our Intensive Care Team.
This program involves a combination of self-directed study, practical sessions, and lectures in a well-supported practical environment. The focus of this program is to help participants develop a problem-solving approach to decision making in critical care. The program encourages critical thinking and reflective practice to link theory to practice. Through this course you will have a chance to further develop your depth of knowledge in acute deterioration, the management of advanced technology and pharmacology support of critical care patients whilst working with highly skilled Education, Nursing, Medical and Allied Health staff. You will become part of a valued Team both in ICU and as a member of the St Vincent's family.

St Vincent's Private Hospital Northside (SVPHN) is located in Chermside approximately 10km's north from the Brisbane CBD. Our ICU is one of the largest Private ICU's in Queensland, admitting over 1450 patients per annum and managing a significant a cardio-thoracic caseload (over 50%), cardiology, endovascular, abdominal, orthopaedic and renal surgery.
SVPHN is co-located with The Prince Charles Hospital (TPCH) a renowned as the Cardio-thoracic Centre of Excellence in Australia. SVPHN partners in this complex surgical speciality to undertake 650 private cardiothoracic surgical procedures each year and our department is at the forefront of cutting edge of technology and in advanced interventional and surgical procedures.

About the Role:
The Palliative Care Service at Canberra Health Services is a consultation liaison service operating during business hours and services patients with palliative needs throughout the wider hospital campus. The palliative care psychosocial liaison is a critical reference point for patients and families with psychosocial needs relating to their overall diagnosis, treatment or adjusting to a new palliative care diagnosis.
The role also provides support and education for staff across diverse professional backgrounds and as such is a highly experienced professional.
Working closely with other disciplines in all wards in Canberra Hospital, the role provides support for patients and their families or carers along with direct care of complex patients. Services include facilitation of access to resources, responding to crisis and leadership in palliative care conversations.
This position can be filled with either a Social Worker or a Psychologist.
