Transdev John Holland Buses (TJHB) | Port Botany Depot

Join Transdev John Holland Buses, a partnership between Transdev Australasia and John Holland bringing together global mobility expertise with leading Australian engineering capability. We operate one of Sydney’s busiest public transport regions, delivering over 67 million customer journeys each year across the CBD and Eastern Suburbs.

We are seeking a Fleet Engineer and Asset Projects specialist to support the engineering performance of our bus fleet and lead key improvement and zero-emission initiatives across Region 9. This role is central to ensuring our fleet is reliable, efficient, sustainable and ready for the future.

Based at Port Botany, you’ll work closely with the Head of Assets to deliver engineering solutions, optimise maintenance practices, support ZEB transition projects, and contribute to wider asset improvement and operational excellence programs.

About the role

In this hands-on and strategic engineering role, you will:

  • Analyse bus component failures and operational performance data to recommend effective engineering solutions
  • Lead the transition to Zero Emission Buses (ZEB), supporting charging, onboard systems, maintenance schedules and network planning
  • Develop long-term fleet strategies that support business and operational goals
  • Champion and optimise the electronic maintenance system (HxGN)
  • Review and refine maintenance schedules to ensure compliance, efficiency and cost-effectiveness
  • Provide insights into breakdown trends and implement continuous improvement initiatives
  • Oversee stores and inventory processes, system reviews, stock take accuracy and stock level adjustments
  • Identify efficiencies across procedures and contribute to change leadership and tendering activities
  • Support sustainable procurement, asset projects, and employee engagement initiatives

This role will also contribute to our commitment to safety, environmental sustainability, and long-term infrastructure readiness.

About you

You’re a forward-thinking engineer with a passion for sustainable transport and advancing zero-emission technology. You thrive in a dynamic fleet environment, enjoy problem-solving, and bring both technical insight and practical operational judgement.

You will have:

  • Tertiary qualification in Engineering or a related discipline (required)
  • Experience with public transport vehicles or commercial fleet systems
  • Involvement in zero-emission bus projects or related infrastructure deployment
  • Familiarity with compliance, safety standards and regulatory requirements for ZEB
  • Experience working with OEMs, suppliers, or government transport agencies
  • Strong analytical, diagnostic and technical report writing capabilities
  • Project engineering experience in transport, energy or automotive sectors
  • Ability to assess vehicle performance, reliability and energy efficiency
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Passion for innovation, sustainability and continuous improvement

Why join Transdev John Holland?

At TJHB, you will play a key role in shaping the future of transport in Sydney. This is an opportunity to contribute to major engineering advancements, including the shift toward zero-emission technology, while working within a collaborative and forward-thinking team.

We offer:

  • A role within a global organisation committed to innovation, safety and customer experience
  • A supportive environment with exposure to major asset projects and future-focused initiatives
  • The chance to help deliver greener, smarter and more reliable journeys for Sydney commuters
