Finance Manager
What Ability
Full-Time

Are you a finance professional looking for a role where your work makes a real impact? Join What Ability, a rapidly growing NDIS-registered disability service provider operating across four states in Australia. We don’t just provide support - we create engaging, fun experiences for our participants. With a national team of over 700 support workers, including professional and semi-professional athletes, we empower people with disabilities to live their best lives by putting happiness first.

This is a full-time, permanent role based at our Macquarie Park office in Sydney.

About the Role

We’re looking for a Finance Manager to join our National team. Reporting to the COO, you’ll play a key role in managing and growing the financial operations of the business, identifying opportunities, and ensuring our systems scale with our ambitions.

This role is perfect for someone who wants to make a real impact, develop their career, and grow towards a future CFO role. Experience in the disability or education sectors is desired, but not essential.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage daily/weekly invoicing, reconciliation, and accurate coding of revenue transactions

  • Liaise with plan managers, families, and stakeholders to resolve invoice discrepancies and adjustments

  • Ensure compliance with NDIS Price Guide, Service Agreements, and internal financial policies

  • Oversee outstanding accounts, initiate collection processes, and liaise with NDIA regarding overdue debt

  • Process and reconcile company expenses and staff reimbursements efficiently

  • Manage fortnightly payroll and respond to payroll-related enquiries

  • Reconcile bank and balance sheet accounts and maintain financial data integrity

  • Manage the month end process, including preparation of monthly financial packages for the Executive Leadership Team (P&L, balance sheet, cash flow reports, and variance analysis)

  • Manage lodgement of payroll tax and BAS on a monthly basis.

  • Maintain the fixed asset register, including processing monthly depreciation and amortisation.

  • Support annual budget planning, forecasting, and performance monitoring

Who You Are
  • Reliable, honest, and authentic in everything you do

  • Comfortable with financial reporting, analysis, and compliance

  • Curious and proactive - you look for ways to improve processes and outcomes

  • Ideally, some understanding of the disability sector, but passion and attitude matter more than experience

Essential Skills & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field

  • CA/CPA qualified or working towards certification

  • Minimum 3+ years in financial accounting, preferably within disability services, healthcare, or NFP sectors

  • Proficient in accounting software (e.g., Xero, MYOB) and Microsoft Excel/Google Suite

  • Knowledge of NDIS pricing, funding models, and compliance requirements (desirable)

  • Strong analytical, time management, and attention to detail skills

  • Ability to communicate financial information clearly to non-finance stakeholders

Why You’ll Love Working Here
  • Join a fast-growing, purpose-driven organisation that’s changing the disability sector

  • Work with a diverse, vibrant team who value fun and impact as much as results

  • Career development opportunities to grow your skills, leadership, and path to CFO

  • Be part of a workplace that celebrates wins, supports growth, and values authenticity

If you’re ready to make a real difference, lead our finance function, and grow alongside a passionate team, we’d love to hear from you!
