About the Role:

The Registered Mental Health Nurse plays a vital role within the Aboriginal Social and Emotional Wellbeing Centre, delivering culturally safe, trauma-informed care to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander individuals, families, and communities. This role champions holistic wellbeing by blending clinical expertise with community-led and traditional healing approaches. Working closely with multidisciplinary teams, cultural leaders, and external partners, the Registered Nurse helps ensure care is truly responsive to the needs, strengths, and aspirations of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

 

Experience Requirements:

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in community and/or acute mental health, ideally with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
  • Strong clinical nursing skills, including holistic wellbeing support, medication knowledge, and nurse clinic experience.
  • Experience developing, implementing, and evaluating procedures and working within multidisciplinary and community-led teams.
  • Deep understanding of cultural safety, trauma-informed care, and Aboriginal health frameworks, including key reports and declarations.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to work respectfully with diverse individuals, families, and communities.
  • Proficient in IT systems and electronic clinical records, with strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks.

 

Qualification and Other Requirements:

  • Registered Nurse with Masters of Mental Health Nursing
  • Current (or eligible for) registration with APHRA as a Registered Nurse
  • Current or willing to obtain a Working with Children's Check (WWCC), National Police Check (NPC) and Vulnerable Persons Check
