The Office of the Inspector-General of Intelligence and Security (IGIS) is central to the independent oversight of the Australian intelligence and security agencies. The Inspector‑General is an independent statutory office holder with oversight of the activities of Australia’s intelligence and security agencies to ensure they act legally and with propriety, comply with ministerial guidelines and directives, and respect human rights. The work of the Inspector-General and his staff provides assurance to ministers, the parliament and the public that these agencies are using their powers as intended.

The Opportunity

The Finance team manages and provides specialist in-house advice on a range of finance, procurement and contract management matters, whilst also increasing capabilities across the organisation on these processes through training, guidance and support.

Key responsibilities of Finance Officer include:

  • performing accounting duties including accurate and timely processing of supplier invoices, raising invoices, maintaining registers, undertaking reconciliations and providing supporting documentation for internal and external audit
  • assisting with internal and external budget management, including liaison with the Department of Finance and other government agencies
  • assisting with travel queries and processing of travel allowance payments and staff reimbursements
  • managing the administration and monitoring of corporate credit cards
  • maintaining the financial policies, processes and procedures, and providing financial advice.

In addition to the above, key responsibilities at the APS Level 6 include:

  • preparation of regular finance tasks including end of month journals, payroll review, BAS and CBMS reporting
  • assist with asset management such as annual stocktakes

Essential skills and experience

  • tertiary qualifications in financial management/accounting, or equivalent experience

Desirable skills

  • demonstrated experience in providing excellent customer service
  • demonstrated success in providing administrative support
  • financial Management Information Systems (FMIS) experience
  • understanding of government procurement and contract management processes
  • understanding of financial management and/or Australian Government budgeting processes.

Appointment to our Office depends on the outcome of an Employment Suitability Assessment, and appointment and ongoing employment are subject to a Positive Vetting clearance being granted and maintained.

The successful candidate must be located in Canberra or willing to relocate. The IGIS offers relocation assistance to new employees relocating to Canberra from interstate.
