Position Overview:The Retail Manager is responsible for the efficient and profitable operation of the roadhouse, including fuel sales, convenience store, food service, and accommodation. This role oversees all aspects of day-to-day management—staff supervision, customer service, inventory, compliance, and financial performance—ensuring the site delivers exceptional service to travelers and locals alike.
Key Responsibilities:1. Operations ManagementOversee daily operations across all areas — fuel forecourt, shop, café/restaurant, and amenities.
Ensure the site is clean, safe, and well-presented at all times.
Manage cash handling, POS operations, and banking.
Maintain fuel inventory and coordinate deliveries to avoid stock shortages.
Liaise with suppliers and service contractors for maintenance and supplies.
Recruit, train, roster, and supervise team members across departments.
Promote a positive, customer-focused culture and team environment.
Monitor staff performance and provide regular feedback and coaching.
Ensure adherence to workplace policies, safety procedures, and hygiene standards.
Deliver excellent customer service and handle complaints or issues promptly.
Maintain a welcoming and friendly environment for travelers, truck drivers, and locals.
Promote in-store deals, meal specials, and loyalty programs.
Achieve daily, weekly, and monthly sales and profitability targets.
Monitor sales performance, costs, and margins, and prepare regular reports.
Control expenses and minimize waste and shrinkage.
Manage supplier invoices and stock purchasing within budget limits.
Maintain adequate stock levels for all categories (fuel, food, groceries, etc.).
Ensure correct pricing, labeling, and presentation of products.
Implement merchandising standards and seasonal promotions.
Ensure compliance with fuel handling, food safety, liquor licensing (if applicable), and workplace health and safety regulations.
Conduct routine safety checks, emergency drills, and equipment inspections.
Maintain all necessary records and licenses in good standing.
Minimum 1-2 years’ experience in retail or hospitality management (roadhouse or service station experience highly regarded).
Strong leadership and organizational skills.
Experience managing multi-department operations (fuel, food, and retail).
Sound financial and administrative acumen.
Excellent communication and customer service skills.
Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and public holidays.
Reliable, hands-on leader with a “can-do” attitude.
Calm and effective under pressure.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to high standards.
Ability to live or work in a regional or remote location (if applicable).
