About the role:

The position of Student Engineer provides a development pathway for a suitable candidate for potential future Graduate Engineer positions at the City. The incumbent will be expected to acquire a range of basic skills in all aspects of civil engineering at the City of Swan, under close supervision by experienced officers. We currently have a short term opportunity for a student to gain some paid experience on a fixed term full time basis until 9 January 2026, with possibility of extension.

Key Accountabilities include, but are not limited to:

  • To gain familiarity with all aspects of civil engineering at the City of Swan - project management, civil design, asset management, construction and maintenance
  • To work diligently to become familiar with processes, procedures and work practices in the areas of Project Management, Asset Management and Construction & Maintenance
  • To carry out relatively straightforward tasks as directed, which are relevant to Project Management, Asset Management and Construction & Maintenance
  • To follow all directions and safety practices when taken to construction sites, whether inspecting works by the City of Swan's own crews, or works by contractors working on behalf of developers
  • Contribute to the provision of a professional, confidential and timely technical support service to the Asset Management business unit
  • Ability to work under broad direction with limited supervision.
  • Apply legislative obligations under the E.O. & WHS policies
  • Maintain an up to date register of completed work.

The successful candidate will have the following:

  • Currently studying a Bachelor Degree or equivalent in Civil Engineering
  • Good interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft office and general tech skills
  • A satisfactory National Police Certificate

The salary for this position will be from $68,485.62 - $74,307.64 per annum, depending on the skills and experience of the successful applicant.
