Job description:

Environment and Closure Advisor

At Sandfire Resources, we are passionate about responsible mining and committed to setting the benchmark in sustainable resource development. As we move into the next phase of our journey at the DeGrussa Copper Mine, we are seeking a dedicated and experienced Environment and Closure Advisor to join our high-performing team.

This is a unique opportunity to play a pivotal role in mine closure execution and environmental compliance on-site, ensuring that our legacy is one of environmental care and excellence.

Your New Role

Reporting to the Environment Manager, you will be responsible for driving environmental compliance and supporting the implementation of mine closure strategies at DeGrussa. This hands-on, site-based role, operating on a 7-days on 7-days off roster, will see you working closely with internal stakeholders, contractors, and regulators to ensure that closure and rehabilitation activities are safe, compliant, and aligned with Sandfire's values and operational model - "The Sandfire Way".

This isn't an average desk job. As the Environment and Closure Advisor, your work will be a dynamic mix of field-based monitoring, hands-on supervision, and technical environmental planning — all to support one clear goal: to ensure closure of DeGrussa is executed to the highest standard.

Here's what your typical day might look like:

  • Heading out into the field to conduct environmental inspections — verifying performance for water quality, dust management, hazardous materials and waste management
  • Monitoring flora, fauna, weeds, pests and rehabilitation, to track progress towards successful restoration of native ecosystems
  • Supervising contractors and consultants working on environmental and closure-related activities — ensuring work is done safely, efficiently, and in line with approvals
  • Calibrating and maintaining monitoring equipment, to ensure environmental data collected is accurate and reliable
  • Verifying and analysing data, identifying trends, and using insights to inform and adapt closure strategies and manage environmental risk
  • Preparing high quality reports for internal teams and regulators, contributing to compliance reporting, corporate ESG disclosures and formal closure documentation
  • Supporting the administration of Land Use Permits, ensuring no works are done without the correct authorisations
  • Participating in incident investigations and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives
  • Providing technical environmental advice to team members, contractors and other stakeholders on-site
  • Oversee administration of the site's geospatial database, and helping to manage closure risk registers
  • Engaging with stakeholders — including Traditional Owners, local communities, and regulators — to ensure transparency and collaboration
  • Delivering training and awareness programs when required, and helping others understand their environmental responsibilities

It's a hands-on, broad, and meaningful role where no two days are the same.

About you

You're someone who thrives outdoors, is skilled in good environmental management practices and can confidently navigate WA's mining and environmental legislation. You've worked in mining before and are ready to take ownership of closure activities that truly matter.

We're looking for:

  • Tertiary qualification in Environmental Science (or similar)
  • 5+ years' experience in environmental roles, with at least 2 in mining
  • A solid grasp of compliance monitoring, sampling, reporting and environmental management systems
  • Proficiency with GIS software (ArcGIS and/or QGIS)
  • A proactive mindset, strong problem-solving skills, and great verbal and written communication
  • A current manual C-class driver's licence
  • First Aid desirable; snake handling a bonus!
  • Desire to broaden skills and welcome opportunities for continued professional growth

At Sandfire, we do things differently. We value smart thinking, collaboration, and a genuine commitment to responsible mining. Joining our closure team means working in a tight-knit environment where your voice matters and your actions count.

You'll enjoy:

  • The chance to shape a key part of Sandfire's closure success story
  • A diverse, inclusive, and forward-thinking team culture
  • Opportunities to implement leading environmental and rehabilitation practices
  • The satisfaction of leaving a positive, tangible legacy at DeGrussa

If you're passionate about environmental performance and want to help set the benchmark for mine closure, we want to hear from you.

Apply today and help us close DeGrussa responsibly.

Sandfire is an equal opportunity employer. We value diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive workplace for all employees.
