The Royal Flying Doctor Service WA (RFDS WA) is seeking a passionate Marketing and Communications Lead to join our team and make a real difference to the health and wellbeing of people living, working and travelling across regional WA.
As one of Australia’s most iconic charities, RFDS WA is trusted by communities far and wide. In this role, you’ll have the privilege of working with dedicated supporters, community fundraising groups, staff members and corporate partners to share the incredible impact of our work.
About the Role
You will play a key role in driving digital communications and marketing strategies that strengthen RFDS WA’s brand and reputation. You’ll combine strategic thinking with creativity to deliver campaigns that engage our communities and stakeholders.
Reporting to the Communications and Marketing Manager, you will:
Oversee digital channels and ensure all marketing aligns with organisational priorities.
Plan and implement internal and external campaigns across fundraising, partnerships and recruitment.
Promote the RFDS WA 2024 – 2028 Strategy Above and Beyond and its future direction.
Lead, support and develop the Communications and Marketing Coordinator.
Our team is small but mighty – so you’ll roll up your sleeves to support broader activities, including events (sometimes evenings/weekends), tours, and stakeholder engagement.
About You
Proven experience in mid-level strategic communications and marketing roles.
Ability to develop and implement marketing strategies aligned with organisational objectives.
Strong understanding of brand management and positioning.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to deliver high quality content tailored to audiences across multiple channels.
Outstanding interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate, consult and influence stakeholders through productive working relationships.
Experience capturing and editing photos/videos using Adobe Creative Cloud Suite.
Ability to provide strategic marketing advice at a senior level.
Exceptional organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines.
Strategic thinker with experience supporting priority projects.
Proficiency in digital communication platforms (social media, Canva, eDM software, Google Analytics and website CMS).
Experience in traditional marketing channels including print advertising, billboards and radio.
Ability to manage external contractors for high quality outcomes.
Desirable attributes include marketing experience within health or not-for-profit sectors, relevant supervisory background and proven expertise in issues management.
A Day in the Life
Your day might kick off by reviewing the performance of recent campaigns to fine-tune the digital strategy for Flying Doctor Day - our biggest annual fundraising event. You’ll be thinking creatively about how to inspire thousands of Western Australians to get involved and support the RFDS.
Later, you’ll collaborate with our Partnerships team and a major corporate partner to explore innovative ways to showcase the impact of their support. This could mean brainstorming compelling stories or planning digital content that connects with diverse audiences.
After a quick planning session with the Communications and Marketing Coordinator, you’ll head to the aircraft hangar to film a doctor sharing her story about an extraordinary patient retrieval. Back at your desk, you’ll turn that footage into a powerful web article and create short, engaging videos for social media using a content stacking approach.
Throughout the day, you’ll work closely with colleagues across the organisation, so confidence in engaging with a wide range of people is key. To wrap up, you might support our People & Culture team by developing recruitment assets for an upcoming campaign - helping us reach the right people to join our mission.
