Shire of Mundaring is seeking a dedicated and professional Building Surveyor to join our Building and Health Services team. The primary focus of this position is to ensure that all proposed building plans and subsequent construction comply with the Building Code of Australia (BCA), relevant Town Planning Schemes, and other statutory and Council provisions.

The successful candidate will maintain a high level of customer service for ratepayers, residents, and the wider community.

Key duties and responsibilities:

  • Assess building permit applications, plans, and specifications for building works.

  • Undertake inspections and report on works in progress and other building matters.

  • Provide technical advice and guidance to customers.

  • Administer and implement provisions of relevant Acts, Regulations, and Local Laws.

Role summary by position level:

  • Trainee Building Surveyor (Level 3): This entry-level role is for someone with a background in the building industry who will be trained to assist the team, developing their communication and teamwork skills while learning to navigate the building processes. The successful candidate for this role will be required to undertake study towards a formal qualification in Building Surveying, with the Shire providing support for this requirement. Salary range: $73,612 to $78,273 pa

  • Assistant Building Surveyor (Level 4): This position is for a developing professional who will focus on customer service, evaluating solutions, and applying legislation and codes. This role requires progress towards a formal qualification. Salary range: $80,574 to $85,605 pa

  • Building Surveyor (Level 5): A more senior role requiring strong communication and analytical skills and a minimum Building Surveyor Technician (BST) qualification. This individual will work under general direction, providing guidance and support to the team while administering relevant legislation. Salary range: $87,925 to $92,761 pa

  • Building Surveyor (Level 6): This is a highly skilled position for an experienced professional, with a minimum level 2 qualification and a deep understanding of the Building Code of Australia and related legislation. The role involves practical fieldwork and is critical for ensuring compliance and regulatory integrity. Salary range: $94,185 to $100,444 pa
