Key Responsibilities:
Assist with the implementation and maintenance of the Council's WHS management system and safety initiatives.
Ensure corrective and preventative actions are identified and adopted to reduce WHS risk through incident, near miss and hazard identification or reporting.
Coordinate workplace or site safety inspections of Council facilities to assist in the identification and management of WHS risks across the organisation and to ensure compliance with safety policies and procedures
Prepare reports on findings because of inspections or incident investigations for management or leadership.
Attend toolbox meetings, promoting safety culture and supporting field staff regarding their responsibilities in managing risks, and ensure they are aware of their obligations.
Assist with, participate in, and follow up on field staff and contractor induction programs.
Assist in training for staff regarding Council's safe work practices, including review, development, induction and monitoring of Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS) statements.
Support and assist managers, team leaders and field staff with the investigation of incidents, near- misses and hazard management.
Support, coach and mentor field staff in the implementation of remedial action arising from investigations.
What You Will Bring:
Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety or similar, or ability to acquire certification or equivalent
experience in a comparable role combined with ongoing professional development.
Entry-level or graduate-level experience in WHS is suitable for this role.
Experience in applying WHS regulations to practical workplace situations.
Experience or ability to acquire knowledge and skills of wellbeing in the workplace
Well-developed interpersonal skills, problem solving and conflict resolution skills.
Ability to maintain a high level of accuracy whilst working to deadlines.
Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion.
Demonstrated ability to undertake duties in a manner consistent with a culture of customer service excellence and Council's values – Leadership, Excellence, Accountability and Delivery.
Working with Children and National Police Check or willingness to obtain both.
A current C class (car) driver's licence is required.
