The Head of Marketing/Fundraising is responsible for developing and executing comprehensive marketing and fundraising strategies that enhance Muslim Aid Australia's visibility, drive donor engagement, and increase sustainable funding for humanitarian programs.
This position is central to the organisation’s ability to expand its impact and reach within the sector. The Head of Marketing/Fundraising will work closely with the leadership team, cross-functional departments, and external stakeholders to align marketing efforts with MAA’s mission, vision, and strategic goals.
This role will lead efforts to create and execute dynamic marketing campaigns, manage social media platforms to grow the organisation’s online presence, and develop compelling storytelling techniques to engage donors and the broader community. The role requires a deep understanding of the non-
profit sector, an ability to creatively communicate MAA's initiatives, and an innovative approach to fundraising.
1. Marketing Strategy & Execution
Lead the development and execution of MAA’s marketing and communications strategies to promote the brand, key programs, and campaigns.
Ensure the consistency and alignment of messaging across all marketing platforms and collateral.
Manage the MAA brand’s visibility through traditional, digital, and social media channels.
Develop and oversee a content strategy, including storytelling, digital content creation, and strategic partnerships.
Track and analyse marketing effectiveness, adjusting strategies as needed to ensure key performance indicators (KPIs) are met.
Identify emerging trends, technologies, and channels to continually enhance MAA’s marketing efforts.
Leverage advocacy and storytelling to build empathy and mobilise support for fundraising initiatives.
Design and lead fundraising campaigns to meet or exceed MAA’s fundraising targets.
Create and manage strategic donor engagement programs to cultivate long-term relationships and enhance donor retention.
Build and maintain relationships with major donors, foundations, and corporate partners to secure both one-off and recurring donations.
Organize fundraising events, donor stewardship initiatives, and appeals, ensuring they are in line with MAA’s mission and values.
Manage fundraising communications and provide timely reports to the COO and Board on fundraising outcomes.
Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing marketing and fundraising team.
Foster a culture of collaboration, creativity, and continuous improvement within the team.
Set clear goals and objectives for the marketing and fundraising teams, providing regular feedback, training, and professional development opportunities.
Oversee team budgeting, resources, and performance management.
Represent MAA externally with key stakeholders, partners, and the public.
Coordinate with the CEO and senior management team on strategic fundraising initiatives.
Build partnerships with other organisations, businesses, and influencers to promote MAA’s work and mission.
Track, analyse, and report on key marketing and fundraising metrics to assess performance.
Develop and maintain systems to track donor and campaign data, ensuring accuracy and integrity of records.
Prepare regular reports for senior leadership, the Board, and other stakeholders to demonstrate campaign outcomes and strategic progress.
A strong passion for the mission and values of MAA International and the wider humanitarian sector.
Proven experience in senior marketing and fundraising roles, preferably within the non-profit sector.
Strong understanding of integrated marketing communications, digital marketing, brand management, and fundraising techniques.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to create compelling content and manage external communications.
Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate, and develop a team.
High proficiency in utilising marketing and fundraising tools, CMS software, CRM systems, and analytics platforms (e.g., Google Analytics, MS Dynamics, Meta Business Suite, Google Ads).
Ability to develop and manage budgets effectively.
Experience in building and maintaining relationships with donors, media, and partners.
A strategic thinker who is also able to execute effectively.
Tertiary qualification in Marketing, Communications, Fundraising, or related discipline (or equivalent experience).
Experience in the international development or humanitarian sector.
Familiarity with Australian and international fundraising regulations.
Experience running major digital campaigns and/or large-scale events.
Knowledge of advocacy communications and how they intersect with fundraising.
Strong media and public relations skills, including crisis comms.
Experience with creative production (video, design, storytelling) for campaigns.
Additional qualifications in fundraising, nonprofit management, or international development.
Languages other than English.
