Stella Maris College Mission and Vision

Stella Maris College, Manly, is a Catholic secondary school for girls in Years 7 to 12, inspired by the Good Samaritan Benedictine tradition. As one of ten schools nationally that form the Good Samaritan Education (GSE) network, the College upholds a holistic and inclusive approach to education, grounded in the values of stewardship, mutuality, prayer, hospitality, humility, discernment, justice, and peace.

Position Purpose

The role of Chinese and Literature Teacher is multifaceted based on being an excellent classroom practitioner with an enthusiasm for and sound knowledge of the subject area, forming and maintaining good relationships with colleagues, students and parents, and keeping abreast with current and best teaching and learning practice.

Reporting Accountabilities

The Chinese and Literature Teacher is a temporary, 0.5 part time position covering a 12 month contract from Term 1, 2026.

The Chinese and Literature Teacher is responsible and accountable to the College Principal.

Role Accountabilities

The teacher will be responsible for delivering the NESA curriculum in Stage 6 Chinese and Literature to Year 11 and Year 12 classes. For a full description of the role of the classroom teacher at Stella Maris College, see additional documents.

Remuneration

The remuneration for the position will be as follows:

• Commensurate with the applicant’s level of qualification, demonstration of teaching expertise as detailed in the CMEA
• Superannuation Guarantee as at the current rate paid by the College in addition to salary

Essential Criteria

• Be able to demonstrate an understanding of the charism of Good Samaritan Education as articulated in the Good Samaritan Philosophy of Education
• Have relevant teaching qualifications
• Be able to demonstrate a high level of competency by providing an example for the five focus areas outlined in the role description for a classroom teacher:
• Plan and implement Curriculum
• Student Assessment and Reporting
• Classroom Management
• Professional Development
• Collaboration and Communication

Conditions of Appointment

• The Classroom Teacher is appointed by the College Principal
• Preferred applicants will be screened in accordance with Child Protection Legislation
• The appointee must hold a current Working with Children Check

Workplace Health and Safety 

Employees are responsible and accountable for: 

• Compliance with workplace policies and procedures for risk identification, risk assessment and risk control
• Active participation in activities associated with the management of workplace health and safety.
• Identification and reporting of health and safety risks, accidents, incidents, injuries and property damage at the workplace
• Where required, correct utilisation of appropriate Personal Protective Equipment or Personal Protective Clothing

Stella Maris College is committed to ensuring that all those engaged in the College promote the fundamental right of children and young people to be respected in a safe school environment. The College has zero tolerance of child abuse and expects all of staff to: 

• Be aware of, understand and comply with the College’s Child Safety Policy and Code of Conduct, including the Child Safe Standards, and demonstrate behaviours in accordance with these.
• Be in possession of a current and valid Working With Children Check
• Respond according to the College’s policies and procedures when interacting with children and young people, taking all allegations and concerns very seriously
• Be committed to providing a safe environment for all children and young people, promoting physical, emotional and cultural safety
