Position: Senior Commissioning Engineer (onshore)
Location: Onshore Project Site – Australia (with potential travel requirements)
Industry: Oil & Gas

About the Role:
We are seeking a Senior Commissioning Engineer to take ownership of the safe and efficient execution of commissioning activities on a large-scale onshore process plant. This role plays a critical part in the overall success of the commissioning campaign, working across multiple disciplines including Electrical & Instrumentation, Mechanical, Piping, Controls, and Process.

You will be responsible for managing a team of engineers and subcontractors, while ensuring strict adherence to HSE standards, project timelines, and technical quality.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and promote a strong HSE culture and ensure compliance throughout the commissioning campaign.

  • Develop and execute detailed commissioning strategies, plans, and procedures.

  • Ensure readiness for commissioning activities, including permits, documentation, materials, and isolation plans.

  • Manage pre-commissioning and commissioning scopes across all disciplines.

  • Liaise closely with engineering, construction, completions, and project control teams to align on priorities.

  • Coordinate system handovers, punch list closures, and manage the completions process.

  • Identify and mitigate risks and opportunities impacting project delivery.

  • Provide input to cost estimates, planning schedules, and execution strategy.

  • Represent the project in technical meetings with clients, suppliers, and consultants.

  • Facilitate coordination between home office engineering teams and site-based personnel.

  • Support brownfield modifications and site-based construction activities.

Skills & Experience:

  • Tertiary qualification or relevant trade background.

  • PMP certification or similar Project Management training (preferred).

  • Minimum 15 years’ experience in oil and gas engineering, with at least 10 years in commissioning and construction roles.

  • Strong background in onshore plant and brownfield construction projects.

  • Proven experience working on live client-operated facilities with Permit to Work systems.

  • Proficient in project control tools, Microsoft Office, and completions management systems.

  • Ability to manage relationships with multiple stakeholders including clients and contractors.

  • Strong problem-solving, organisational, and leadership skills.

  • High level of initiative, responsibility, and accountability.

  • Excellent communication skills – both written and verbal.

  • Team-oriented with the ability to work in multidisciplinary environments.

  • Comfortable in fast-paced project settings with tight deadlines.

  • Willingness to travel to project sites, client offices, and vendor locations as required.

  • Availability to work extended hours based on project needs.

  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and training.
