Melbourne Polytechnic is seeking a dynamic Data Engineer and Reporting Specialist to play a key role in the implementation of our new Student Management System (SMS). Reporting to the SMS Finance & Reporting Domain Lead, you will lead the development of a reporting strategy, automate operational and business intelligence reporting, and ensure data integrity across the student lifecycle.
This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to Melbourne Polytechnic’s Strategic Plan and Digital Strategy by delivering high-quality reporting solutions and dashboards that support informed decision-making.
Develop and implement a comprehensive reporting strategy for the new SMS.
Design and support data integrations using Azure services (ADF, SQL Database, Data Lake, Synapse).
Lead reconciliation and gap analysis of reporting requirements across domains.
Design and build reports, dashboards, and templates using tools such as Power BI.
Build and optimise complex SQL queries and data warehouse models.
Collaborate with internal stakeholders and vendors to ensure timely delivery of reporting solutions.
Provide documentation, training, and post-go-live support for reporting tools.
Tertiary qualifications in IT, Business, or related field, or extensive experience in similar roles.
Strong experience in data engineering, ETL/ELT pipelines, and star-schema modelling.
Advanced SQL skills and experience with Azure services.
Proven ability to develop and publish Power BI dashboards and reports in an enterprise environment.
Exceptional stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
Ability to manage complex projects on time and on budget.
Successful candidate will be required to provide:
A valid Victorian Employee Working with Children Check (WWCC)
A National Police Check
