About La Milas
La Milas is an Australian retail group operating three distinct brand names. Our parent company trades globally, importing and exporting retail goods. We’re scaling, diversifying channels, and tightening our financial operating system to match.
The opportunity
We’re hiring a Financial Controller to own day‑to‑day finance and controls across all brands. You’ll lead the month‑end close, treasury, compliance, and commercial reporting, with a sharp focus on Xero accounting and Shopify retail operations. This is a hands‑on role that mixes controls discipline with commercial pace.
What you’ll do
Own the books (Xero): Manage the GL, AR/AP, fixed assets, payroll journals, and tax packs. Design and maintain a scalable chart of accounts and tracking categories by brand/channel.
Group consolidation: Produce brand‑level and consolidated P&L, balance sheet, and cashflow; close month‑end within agreed timelines; prepare board packs and commentary.
GST/BAS & compliance: Prepare BAS/IAS, PAYG and superannuation submissions; ensure AASB/IFRS
compliance; coordinate external accountants/auditors.
Treasury & cash: Oversee multiple bank accounts and payment gateways; daily cash positioning, short‑ and medium‑term cashflow forecasting, FX management, and settlements.
Retail operations (Shopify): Ensure clean Shopify → Xero integrations, payout reconciliation (e.g., Stripe/PayPal/Afterpay), refund/chargeback handling, and accurate SKU‑level margins.
Inventory & COGS: Implement landed‑cost and freight allocation, inventory valuation, stock counts, shrink/returns accounting, and in‑transit inventory tracking.
Import/Export: Support global trading: duties/tariffs, Incoterms alignment with finance, freight accruals, and documentation; manage intercompany charges and transfer pricing policy with advisors.
Controls & process: Build practical policies (delegations, approvals, 3‑way match), automate with Xero add‑ons/Shopify apps, and harden data quality.
Planning & analysis: Own budgets/forecasts, rolling reforecasts, scenario testing, and brand‑level performance dashboards.
Leadership & partnership: Mentor a small finance team; work closely with Operations, Merchandising, Marketing, and Logistics to drive profitability and working‑capital discipline.
What you’ll bring
Non‑negotiable: Deep, recent, hands‑on Xero and Shopify experience in a retail product business.
Experience: 5–8+ years in accounting/controllership roles; strong month‑end discipline and group reporting. CA/CPA (or near‑complete) preferred.
Retail finance toolkit: Inventory/COGS, landed cost, channel profitability, discounting/promo impact, and returns economics.
International trading: Comfort with FX, cross‑border settlements, duties, and freight—plus intercompany and transfer pricing mechanics.
Tools: Xero (advanced), Shopify admin & analytics, Excel/Sheets (power user). Power BI/Tableau a plus.
Mindset: Builder‑operator who can document, automate, and scale processes without losing accuracy or speed.
Working rights: Valid Australian work rights.
