About Us

Community Housing Central Australia (CHCA) is a not-for-profit community housing provider based in Alice Springs. We manage social and affordable housing programs that support families, communities and the wider region. Our organisation is growing, and we value clear communication, professionalism, accountability and accuracy. We are seeking temporary finance support to ensure operational continuity while our Finance Officer is on leave.

About the role

The role is 25–38 hours per week, part-time, based on the workload at the time. The successful applicant will be provided a 12-month contract, after which an extended contract for 2-3 years may be offered. The role is based in the Alice Springs office, and remote applicants will not be considered. There may be some support available for relocation to Alice Springs for the right applicant.

This role is best suited to someone who thrives in a fast-moving environment, can work independently with minimal supervision, and is comfortable taking ownership of document quality, workflows and meeting processes.

You will often receive broad or partial instructions, and you will need to translate them into clear, accurate and professional outputs. This is a rewarding position for someone who is exceptionally organised with outstanding communication skills.

Key responsibilities

• Draft, format and refine high-quality documents, reports, templates and policies
• Prepare agendas, coordinate meetings and take accurate minutes capturing decisions and actions
• Compile reports by gathering information from across the organisation
• Track actions, follow up on tasks and support task assigners with a structured workflow
• Improve the clarity and consistency of existing documents
• Assist with project coordination, information gathering, development and research
• Maintain strong document management through Teams and SharePoint
• Operate confidently and confidentially in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities

What We’re Looking For

You must be able to ask specific, targeted questions to ensure you have the information you need to complete the tasks assigned to you. You will need to keep good records and carry the ownership of a task or project until completion.

• Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy
• Strong written communication and document design capability
• Fast, agile and proactive working style
• Ability to think from the lens of the task-assigner and anticipate what is needed
• Confident minute-taking and meeting coordination experience
• Strong problem-solving and analytical ability
• High professionalism, judgement and confidentiality
• Advanced Microsoft 365, AI prompting, Teams and SharePoint capability
• Experience in a similar position

Essential Criteria

  1. Demonstrated ability to draft, format and refine high-quality documents such as policies, procedures, reports, templates and meeting papers. Proven capability to convert incomplete instructions or rough notes into polished, professional outputs.

  2. Ability to identify errors, inconsistencies and gaps in documentation and correct them before finalisation. Demonstrated commitment to maintaining high-quality standards across all work.

  3. Ability to prepare agendas, organise meetings, and take clear, accurate minutes that capture decisions, actions and responsibilities. Experience in maintaining action registers and ensuring follow-through is essential.

  4. Demonstrated experience managing competing priorities, shifting requirements and short deadlines while maintaining quality and composure.

  5. Strong ability to track tasks, coordinate information, monitor deadlines and support project delivery across multiple workstreams with minimal supervision.

  6. Ability to interpret tasks from the perspective of the assigner, anticipate what is required, identify risks or gaps early, and implement practical solutions.

  7. Experience managing documents, folders, version control and collaborative workflows using Teams, SharePoint and other Microsoft 365 applications.

  8. Proven ability to handle sensitive information, engage appropriately with staff at all levels, and maintain professional presentation and conduct at all times.

  9. Understanding of, or willingness to learn about, working in Aboriginal community settings, demonstrating cultural awareness, respect, and appropriate communication.
