About the role

The Capital Works Planning and Delivery branch at Merri-bek City Council are transforming as we embark on a journey to become a customer-centric, high performing team, focussed on delivering exceptional value for our organisation. We are seeking enthusiastic, driven, and innovative people to help us turn our goals into actions

The Senior Project Manager sits within Council’s Building Project’s business unit within the Capital works Planning and Delivery branch, a specialist project management team responsible for the construction of new and the upgrade of existing Council assets, as directed by the annual Capital Works Program. In addition, the unit is also instrumental in providing design, construction, buildability and planning advice on proposed future projects.

The position is responsible for assigned projects which will include the construction management of sportsground upgrades and integrated water management in addition to Council building assets. This may include, construction management of integrated water management systems, including water sensitive urban design (swales, raingardens), stormwater harvesting systems, wetland system, including managing projects from conception through to completion.

The successful applicant will be required to demonstrate a proactive approach to the development and improvement of Council’s assets, and technical expertise in the field of construction projects.

Skills and experience require to perform the role
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple stakeholders and effectively partnering to influence decision-making.
  • Completion of a degree or diploma course in the applicable field or discipline and several years of subsequent relevant experience; a higher formal qualification in a field of specialist expertise or management; or a lesser formal qualification in an applicable field with extensive relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in the construction industry, with previous experience in the management of construction projects.
  • Experience in the preparation and monitoring of cost plans and budgets is essential.
  • Project management qualifications/certification is desirable.
  • A current Victorian Drivers Licence is essential.
  • Knowledge and experience within the Local Government industry is desirable.
