Join the Northern Territory Government to safeguard passengers and bus drivers on the Darwin bus network by delivering an effective customer safety and security service.

The Department of Logistics and Infrastructure partners with community, business, and government to deliver integrated, sustainable infrastructure and services across the Northern Territory (NT). The Transport Safety and Services unit provides operational and regulatory transport safety and services across the NT.

The Role

Opportunities are available for Transit Officers to provide effective customer services and a safe environment for all stakeholders on the Darwin bus network in a high pressure environment.

You will be responsible for conducting on-road patrols to proactively deal with potential anti-social behaviours, duty taskings and requests for assistance on the bus network. These are dynamic roles that involve dealing with colleagues and the public in a fair and equitable manner, providing a highly visible presence whilst promoting a positive image of the Department’s services.

About you

  • Understanding of contemporary customer service techniques in a cross-cultural environment

  • Well-developed interpersonal skills with the ability to manage conflict situations

  • Written and verbal communication skills, including computer literacy

  • Ability to interpret and apply legislation, and an understanding of Workplace Health and Safety principles

  • Demonstrated integrity and the ability to maintain high levels of confidentiality

  • Ability to successfully complete a psychological assessment and pre-employment medical

  • Hold a valid Working with Children Clearance Notice (Ochre Card) and complete a National Police criminal history clearance

  • Hold a current Senior First Aid Certificate and an NT driver’s licence (manual).

The successful applicant must be willing to work shifts across a varying roster including late nights, weekends and public holidays and complete Aerosol Subject Restraint (OC Spray) training.
