DomeShelter Australia is hiring a Junior Design Engineer!
You’re not just another drafter. You’re a designer — someone who thinks in 3D, lives and breathes modelling, and takes pride in bringing real structures to life.
You enjoy the art and precision of design; creating something that not only looks good on screen but can be built cleanly, efficiently, and reliably in the real world.
You’ve worked in or around fabrication, manufacturing, or construction, so you understand how materials and components fit together.
You can present design options — not just one answer — because you know the difference that small decisions make to cost, strength, and buildability.
You’re confident in Autodesk Inventor (or similar software), and you’re quick on the tools — the kind of person who can model ideas live during a meeting, turning sketches and conversations into fully formed designs.
You take pride in your craft. You like improving things — systems, libraries, templates — and making designs more efficient, repeatable, and elegant.
About DomeShelter Australia
For 30 years, DomeShelter Australia has led the way in premium engineered industrial fabric structures — designed, manufactured, and shipped worldwide.
Now, we’re adding a new Junior Design Engineer to our growing team who is ready to take ownership of their work. Progression to Senior Design Engineer and Head of Design is available to high performers.
About the Role
You’ll join our Design team and report directly to the Design Manager.
Your focus will be designing bespoke DomeShelter structures. This isn’t a drafting role. We already have drafters.
This is for someone who designs — who can think through form, material, and connection; who can sketch, model, and iterate fast; and who can contribute at every stage from concept to production.
The role includes:
Designing custom DomeShelter structures in Autodesk Inventor.
Producing concept models, detailed designs, and documentation
Presenting design options and recommending practical solutions
Collaborating with estimators, engineers, and production teams
Developing and improving the design library and standards
Researching and testing new design methods and materials
Who You Are
You might be early in your career or have a few years’ experience — what matters is your mindset and ability to design with intent.
You’ll thrive here if you:
Live and breathe 3D modelling and are an expert user of Inventor (or similar)
Have real design experience — not just drafting or redrawing
Understand fabrication, materials, and how things get built
Can communicate clearly and collaborate across departments
Like improving systems and processes, not just following them
Want to grow into leadership and shape how things are designed
Location, Travel & Growth
This role is open to those based in Melbourne or Perth, with fortnightly travel to Northam, WA to work directly with our manufacturing team. Travel allowances provided.
You’ll get hands-on exposure to how your designs are built — a rare opportunity to see the full cycle from design to production.
Salary & Growth
$80,000 – $120,000 + super, depending on experience.
