Career progression to Site Management

Work closely with a strong senior leader

Are you a Carpenter who takes genuine pride in delivering exceptional homes, seeking a role where your expertise shapes the final product? Are you ready to take the step up from a tradesman to a Leading Hand?

We are looking for a dedicated professional to lead carpentry works on custom home construction projects for our client.

This is a permanent opportunity based in Eight Mile Plains, Brisbane, with most sites across the Southside of Brisbane. You'll join a custom home builder focused on quality and client satisfaction, providing a stable environment within a growing company.

Your role will be to manage the carpentry aspects of bespoke homes, leveraging your skills to ensure projects are completed efficiently, on time, and within budget. You'll contribute directly to the high standards that define our client's work.

What You'll Be Doing:
  • Site Supervision & Leadership: You'll be assisting the Site Manager in overseeing daily site operations, acting as a key point of contact between our on-site workers and the Site Manager. You'll monitor carpentry progress, conduct toolbox talks, and even provide on-the-job training and mentoring to our apprentices and less experienced carpenters
  • Time & Cost Management: You'll help keep projects on track by assisting with scheduling trades and material deliveries, specifically for carpentry works. Keeping accurate daily records, reporting on progress, and managing priorities to meet deadlines will be part of your routine. You'll also be mindful of project budgets, minimising costs where possible for any additional works
  • Safety First: Your dedication to health and safety is paramount. You'll enforce safety protocols, conduct regular checks, maintain a safe work environment, and ensure all workers comply with OHS regulations. Reporting and documenting incidents and ensuring corrective actions are taken will be crucial.
  • Effective Communication: You'll be a vital link, liaising with the rest of the team, subcontractors, suppliers, and clients to ensure clarity on project goals and expectations. Providing clear instructions to carpenters and resolving on-site issues quickly
  • Problem Solver Extraordinaire: When challenges arise, you'll be ready to tackle them head-on, whether it's related to work quality, safety, or scheduling. Your experience will help you troubleshoot, make sound decisions, and adapt plans to unforeseen circumstances
  • Inventory & Documentation: You'll ensure carpentry materials are ordered and delivered to the site as needed, minimising downtime. You'll check material deliveries for accuracy and quality, reporting any discrepancies or damaged goods. Managing on-site storage and maintaining thorough documentation, including site diaries, safety reports, and timesheets, will be essential. You'll also be responsible for interpreting specifications, plans, drawings, and finishes schedules to ensure all works are installed and ordered correctly
What We're Looking For:
  • Proven experience as a Leading Hand Carpenter or a highly experienced carpenter ready for leadership
  • Strong understanding of carpentry processes, techniques, and safety regulations (OHS)
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to read and interpret plans, drawings, and specifications accurately
  • Solid problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach to challenges
  • Demonstrated ability to manage time effectively and work to deadlines
  • Valid driver's license
