As the Project HSE Lead, you will be responsible for strategizing, planning, and leading health, safety, and environmental systems and practices at a major renewables site (Maryvale, Dubbo/Wellington). You'll ensure compliance with all Australian legislation and drive continuous improvement in safety, environmental management, and social performance across every phase of the project.

The Opportunity
As the Project HSE Lead, you will be responsible for strategizing, planning, and leading health, safety, and environmental systems and practices at a major renewables site (Maryvale, Dubbo/Wellington). You'll ensure compliance with all Australian legislation and drive continuous improvement in safety, environmental management, and social performance across every phase of the project.
Key Responsibilities
- HSE Planning & Strategy: Develop and continuously refine the HSE plan for the project, identify improvement areas, and implement assurance programs that elevate safety and environmental standards from construction through operations.
- Compliance and Governance: Ensure robust adherence to Australian WHS law, environmental codes of practice, and social responsibility frameworks. Track and report on performance metrics, lead incident reviews, and coordinate safety governance meetings.
- Technical Leadership: Oversee on-site construction activities (civil, electrical, mechanical, commissioning) for best-practice safety and sustainability. Lead inspections, risk assessments, incident investigations, and author corrective actions. Guide the site's environmental management (from biodiversity to waste and heritage) and support Indigenous and community engagement.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Be a champion for a safety-first culture with internal teams, contractors, and stakeholders. Collaborate closely with project managers, contractors, and broader teams to ensure standards are met and exceeded.
- Continuous Improvement: Use data-driven approaches to analyze trends, implement new practices, and set benchmarks for project HSE performance.

Skills & Experience
The ideal candidate offers:
- Degree qualifications in Engineering, OHS, Environmental Science, or a related field.
- Certificate IV or Diploma in WHS (preferred).
- 10+ years (ideally 10-15) of HSE leadership experience on energy, infrastructure, or construction projects, ideally in renewables.
- Deep knowledge of Australian WHS law, environmental management, social performance (including Indigenous and community engagement), and best-practice compliance.
- Practical understanding of ISO 45001 & ISO 14001 systems and their application in large projects.
- Proven strength in risk management, incident investigations (ICAM or similar), compliance reporting, and contractor management.
- Strong leadership, analytical thinking, adaptability, and communication skills.
- Hands-on, solutions-focused, and driven by a commitment to safety leadership and continuous improvement.
- Current Australian driving licence, white card, and First Aid/CPR (or willingness to obtain).
