The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Purchasing Officer to join our Infrastructure Supply Chain team on a 6-month contract, reporting to the Planning and Inventory Manager.

This full-time role plays a critical part in the national procurement of materials to support Downer's construction activities. You'll work closely with planning analysts, suppliers, and supply chain teams to ensure the timely provision of materials, maintain accurate purchasing records, and drive value through strong supplier relationships.

What You'll Do

• Manage the end-to-end purchasing of materials to support construction projects across Australia.
• Liaise between planning, warehouse, and supply chain teams to resolve supply issues and maintain stock availability.
• Negotiate with suppliers to secure competitive pricing and reliable delivery performance.
• Maintain accurate purchasing data and delivery forecasts across multiple warehouse locations.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives to streamline purchasing processes and improve cost efficiency.

What We're Looking For

• Minimum 3 years' experience in purchasing or procurement of finished goods.
• Strong supplier management and negotiation skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word (intermediate level or above).
• Strong communication skills and a customer service mindset.
• Ability to work independently while contributing effectively to a team.
• Highly organised with a methodical approach to managing data, forecasting, and stock control.
