About Somerville Community Services

Somerville is a for-purpose, community-based organisation that has supported Territorians for over 50 years. We specialise in high-quality disability services that empower people to live the life they choose. As a registered NDIS provider, we deliver individualised support across the Northern Territory, with a focus on respectful, person-centred relationships that promote choice, dignity, and independence.

About the role

We’re looking for a skilled and creative Communications Coordinator to enhance Somerville’s visibility and reputation across the Northern Territory.

This role leads the development of clear, engaging, and consistent communications across digital, print, and media channels. You’ll bring ideas to life through storytelling, visual design, and campaigns that reflect Somerville’s values and celebrate the work we do in the community. You’ll also play an active role in promoting key events, fundraising initiatives, and organisational achievements - helping to connect people to Somerville’s mission in meaningful ways.

What you’ll be doing

In this role you’ll:

  • Plan and deliver communication strategies and campaigns that strengthen Somerville’s brand and profile
  • Create and coordinate publications and promotional materials, including newsletters, annual reports, and media content
  • Manage Somerville’s website and social media platforms, producing engaging and timely content
  • Write and edit a wide range of materials including media releases, speeches, and stories that highlight Somerville’s people and impact
  • Support the delivery and promotion of events, fundraising, and community engagement activities
  • Build strong relationships with media, community organisations, and partners
  • Monitor and analyse communication performance to inform improvements

What you’ll bring

You’ll bring focus, initiative, and sound judgement to coordinate communications projects and deliver high-quality outcomes, along with:

  • Demonstrated experience in communications, marketing, or public relations
  • Strong writing, editing, and design skills, with an eye for detail and storytelling
  • Experience managing social media and website content
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 and design software such as Adobe Creative Suite or Canva
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects at once
  • High level of professionalism and discretion when handling sensitive information
  • Current (or ability to obtain) Ochre Card, Criminal History Check, NDIS Worker Screening, NT Driver’s Licence, and influenza vaccination

A qualification in Communications, Marketing, or a related field, or experience in the disability or not-for-profit sector, would be well regarded.

Please refer to the full position description on our website: https://somerville.org.au/careers.

Why work with us

You’ll also enjoy:

  • Five weeks annual leave
  • Paid parental leave
  • Not-for-profit salary packaging to boost your take-home pay
  • Regular professional development and training opportunities
  • Supportive leadership and a collaborative team environment
  • A genuine focus on wellbeing, inclusion, and work-life balance
  • Free, confidential Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
