THE ROLE
The Educational Assistant (EA) is a critical role within the educational institution that demands a high level of commitment, experience, and interpersonal skills. The EA's primary responsibility is to provide support to classroom teachers and other staff members in addressing the diverse learning needs of students. The EA serves as a resource person for teachers in designing and implementing instructional strategies that maximise student achievement and success.
The EA’s role is instrumental in promoting inclusion and supporting the learning of all students, including those with special needs, and students with other challenges that may impact their learning. The EA works closely with classroom teachers to monitor student progress, identify learning gaps, and facilitate targeted interventions that enhance students' learning and progress.
To be successful in this role, the EA's should possess strong advocacy of inclusive practices, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, an understanding of diverse learning needs, and a profound knowledge of evidence-based practices and trends in learning support services. The EA must be flexible, adaptive to change, and committed to continuous learning and professional development.
SKILLS
Exceptional communication skills both written and verbal, strong interpersonal skills and experience in maintaining cooperative partnerships within the organisation
Advanced computer literacy and experience with Microsoft Office products
Well-organised and committed
Ability to prioritise workload and meet deadlines
Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, with demonstrated ability to build rapport and interact effectively at all levels of an organisation.
Demonstrates a respect for, and acceptance of, difference in students, parents and staff.
Ability to provide in class support to students who have a specific learning disability such as dyslexia, dysgraphia and dyscalculia
Operates effectively in a collaborative team environment; establishes a rapport and builds strong relationships.
